Importing Sketchup Files To Rhinoceros

  1. FreeCAD can import STEP files and save as other formats- STL for example which can be imported in SketchUp Pro or Make 2017. I don’t know if SketchUp Free is able to import them. FreeCAD can be scripted to do the conversion so you wouldn’t actually need to open the program to do a conversion. You could write a short command line script.
  2. If you are using Lumion 5.x (or later) and Rhino 5 Service Release 10 (or later), we recommend exporting your model as a Collada (DAE) file. If you are using an earlier version of Lumion or Rhino, please export a SketchUp file from Rhino (.SKP), and import it in Lumion. This procedure is described in the.

Here's the steps that I take to import a model built in SketchUp into Rhino. In the instructions below, I’m working on Windows 8.1. The SketchUp version is SketchUp Pro 2014, version 14.0.4900. Rhinoceros is version 5 SR7 64-bit. Once you have your model the way you want it in SketchUp, export it to the DWG format. In Rhino, import the DWG file. Then for each element of the model in Rhino, do the following two steps.

I am trying to import some SketchUp files from 3dwarehouse into Rhino, but while the.skp file ending is listed as compatible, I have not had any luck in importing a file successfully. I read somewhere it only works in 32bit, but its the same as in 64bit, giving me the error.

Use the 'MeshToNURB' and 'MergeAllFaces' commands to clean up the model. It's best to this in pieces instead of against the whole model in one step. Like these tips? Learn more in our eBooks. Note: When Rhino opens a non-3dm model, the title bar reflects the name of the model that was opened. When the model is saved for the first time, this model name is entered as the file name.
